This piece was made for a Graphic Design camp at Drexel University. The prompt was to create a poster featuring a historical figure and I was assigned Rosa Parks. The poster features imagery from the Civil Rights Movement with Parks in front of a map of Montgomery, Alabama, a city she cared for deeply as a community activist, but whose layout is also reminiscent of the bus routes that defined her rebellion. The words superimposed over her reference the protest song “We Shall Not Be Moved,” and the famous “I Am A Man” posters. The colors were inspired by African American painters, especially Aaron Douglass and Norman Lewis.
